Blau-Weisse weltweit: Richard the Lion

Richie in Kambodscha
Having scored a hattrick in his debut in the Malaysian Hockey League, Richard Patherick aims to continue his form when the league resumes after a two week hiatus.
The New Zealand defender, who is donning the colours of UniKL-TRC in the MHL found the mark three times, all off penalty corners in the come from behind 3-2 win over Uitm at the Tun Razak Stadium on December 18.
And UniKL-TRC will be hoping that Richard, who loves pizza and chicken wraps, keeps up his goal scoring form when they play Yayasan Negeri Sembilan in their next match this Friday at the Tun Razak Stadium.
The third goal was the most crucial, coming from the last piece of action in regulation time, and the ever confident Richard opted to go for a direct flick rather then attempt to play a set piece. A well directed flick gave his team the three points and anything higher then that would have meant sharing the spoils with Uitm.

"I was confident and opted for a direct attempt. It was a sweet moment for me and hopefully the start of better things to come," said Richard who hails from Hamilton.
Having made his international debut against Holland in 2005, Richard has gone on to collect 69 international caps so far and is hoping that his stint in the MHL will make him a better all round player.
Richard admires tennis great Roger Federer and said sportsmen could learn a thing of two from Federer who gives his best when on the court, and has a never give up approach towards matches.
Having been a regular in matches against Malaysia, as Richard played in the Azlan Shah Cup in 2005, the Kiwi has great admiration for former Malaysian skipper S. Kuhan.
"I like his playing style and he is devastating with his penalty corners. Hopefully I will get the better of him when our teams meet," said Richard who feels the young UniKL-TRC side has much to offer in the MHL.
UniKL will be hoping to continue their fine form in the match against former champions on YNS. And the fact that they hae only one match this weekend should spur the university side to give it their all in the match on Friday.
But UniKL-TRC are well aware of the challenge they face against YNS as the Seremban team have 11 foreign players in their team. The likes of Pakistan's Shakeel Abbasi, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Waqas as well as the Indian duo of Prabhjot Singh and Deepak Thakur can cause them numerous problems.
